The Queensland St Barbara’s Day Dinner in Brisbane was a shining example of camaraderie and knowledge-sharing in the tunneling industry. Over 90 attendees filled the room with energy and engagement, with designers, contractors, clients, and students uniting to celebrate their shared passion. The atmosphere buzzed with lively conversation, a testament to the strong sense of community that defines the industry.

For Philip Tsang, Chair of the ATS Young Members, the highlight was connecting with ATS YM Committee members and listening to insights from the industry’s top experts. “It’s a reminder,” Philip reflected, “that regardless of where we work, we all have a responsibility to give back and share knowledge.”

The event also featured the presentation of the 2024 David Sugden Award to the brilliant Shenyan Yao for her outstanding paper, Evaluating Tunnel Junction Behaviour: A Comparative Study of 3D and 2D Equivalent Span Analyses.

Looking ahead, the Queensland chapter plans to deepen ties with universities, engage more students, and gear up for the 2025 grouting course. With aspirations for WTC 2028 in Brisbane, the future is bright.

HUGE THANKS TO… The event would not have been possible without the generous support of sponsors like Aurecon, Barchip and QLD Hydro.
