The Australian Tunnelling Society (ATS), in collaboration with the Australian National Committee on Large Dams (ANCOLD), has unveiled the dates for the much-anticipated ATS Grouting Course 2025.

This one-day event will take a roadshow format, taking place in Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane, and promises to bring cutting-edge expertise to professionals in Australia’s booming tunnelling and dam construction sectors:

  • Melbourne – Monday, 26 May 2025
  • Sydney – Wednesday, 28 May 2025
  • Brisbane – Thursday, 29 May 2025

Grouting, a critical technique for controlling water flow in rock fractures, plays a pivotal role in major infrastructure projects, including tunnels and dam foundations for hydropower and pumped hydro systems. The ATS Grouting Course aims to reignite Australia’s expertise in this field and equip attendees with the knowledge needed to meet the growing demand for advanced grouting operations.

The course will feature keynote speaker Mohamed El Tani. Mohamed is the President of the Commission for Rock Grouting of ISRM, the international society for rock mechanics. He is also the President of LAUS, the Lebanon Association for Underground Space, and brings decades of research and practical experience to the Australian audience.

“I am thrilled to be coming to Australia for the ATS Grouting Course 2025. This is a vital opportunity to share the latest knowledge and practice in rock grouting, a skill that is essential to the success of tunnel, dam and hydroelectric projects,” he says.

Complementing Mohamed’s expertise, the event will include presentations from leading industry figures, including Bruce Grant (Multigrout Australia), Iain Robertson (RIX Ground Engineering), Sean Ladiges (GHD), and Harry Asche (Aurecon).

Harry Asche, Chairman of the ATS 2025 Grouting Course, emphasised the importance of this event in addressing the industry’s skill gaps.

“Grouting knowledge has declined in Australia over the years, even though it remains a crucial component of many large-scale projects,” Harry explains.

“This course is about bringing Australia back to the forefront of global grouting expertise. Attendees will leave with practical insights that can immediately impact their work, whether they are clients, consultants, or contractors.”

Attendees will benefit from a full day of expert-led sessions, networking opportunities, and valuable takeaways for applying grouting solutions in their projects.

“Save the date and don’t miss this chance to gain insights from some of the best in the field,” Harry adds.
“This event is not just about knowledge—it’s about collaboration and innovation in an industry that is essential to Australia’s future.”

With registration details to follow soon, professionals in tunnelling, dam construction, and related fields are encouraged to mark their calendars and stay tuned for updates.
