NSW Chapter Golf Day
By Dave Clague
The somewhat cool and wet day for the annual ATS golf day on 23 November in Parramatta didn’t dishearten the attendees in having a great time for a great cause with even better company.
Battling out for the Peter Watson Trophy, 81 participants drove and chipped their way around the beautifully manicured Parramatta Ryde golf course. Attendees had a wide range of skills with some playing off a handicap of 3 to hackers like myself, and everything in between.
I’d like to give a special shout out to all the female attendees, and particularly the group of inspirational women who took up golf only a few months ago with the sole purpose to play in this event – thank you!
To all the players that reached into their own pockets on the novelty 17th beat the pro hole – thank you too!
With the aim of raising money for the world-renowned pioneering disease research #Garvan Institute, which was very close to Peter Watson’s heart, this day could not achieve what it has done since its inception (raising over $110K) if it wasn’t for the hole, prize and cart sponsors. Again, a big shout out to those companies in the tunnelling industry that dig deep into their pockets, many of them year after year, to support the day – thank you!

While winning is never the goal, congratulations to the DSI Underground team for winning (yet again), DC Adams Group (who came second) and APP (third). Well done also to the novelty hole winners.
As a side note, this will be the last time Brad Boardman organises the event as he is soon moving overseas with work. Brad’s passion over the past seven years has been infectious and the ATS, the Garvan Institute and the extended Watson family wish Brad all the best for the future and thank him for all his great work putting on this event.
We look forward to seeing everyone again in 2024 and being able to contribute even more to this fantastic charity!
