Congratulations to the ATS WA team for their fantastic event exploring how a determined team can overcome design and construction challenges and safely deliver a complex project.
The BP KWOL Pipeline Relocation project was initiated to make way for the major construction works needed for a new 14.5km railway line between the Armadale and Manudrah lines in Western Australia and is the largest brownfield trenchless relocation in Australia.
The event was held on 9 April and attended by over 70 people (in person and online). ATS WA Chair and event speaker Jiang Aizezi (Aziz) said the atmosphere in the room for the 40 in person attendees was great. “Having been in the industry for 14 years, I’m really keen to share the knowledge I’ve accumulated and learnings that might help me reflect, as well as help others,” he says. “It’s good to share the lessons learnt on a project to prevent similar mistakes made on the next one. This will reduce the risk, cost and time impact.”
The feedback was very complimentary with one attendee saying it was valuable to attend a presentation that was so candid about the things that went wrong, what the team did to fix them and the key lessons they learnt. “Most people aren’t brave enough to share things like this, but it’s how we learn,” they said.
Aziz says ATS WA is looking to host their next event towards the middle of 2024 (more info to come soon), but the biggest event on their calendar at present is the Australasian Tunnelling Conference in Perth, 10-14 November 2025.
This event was jointly presented by the ATS, AGS, ICE and ASTT.
