On March 16, the ATS Tunnel Systems subgroup held the highly successful event: Water mist suppression for road tunnels. Attended by almost 300 people, in person in multiple locations across Australia as well as globally online, it was the first of what the Tunnel Systems team hopes will be many successful hybrid information sharing events.

With speakers including Conrad Stacey, one of Australia’s most trusted experts in the fields of tunnel ventilation and underground fire safety who leads the working group for revision of AS 4825 – ‘Tunnel Fire Safety’, and Paul Gingell, National Manager, Foam & Water Mist Systems LPG Fire, the event delved deeply into the very current topic of provisioning tunnels for fire. It covered the differences between water mist and deluge, how each are implemented and how they interact with other systems and structural design elements in road tunnels.

With the event shedding some much needed light on the varied aspects of the technology, and its pathway to implementation in Australia and beyond, the feedback from attendees was very positive and the ATS Tunnel Systems subgroup looks forward to more such events in the future.

The event organisers would like to extend huge thanks to the event sponsor LPG Fire and Stacey Agnew, who provided the meeting space in Brisbane.
