The ATS’s Air Quality Working Group (AQWG) has been successful in winning the “Safety Initiative of the Year” award as part of the ITA Awards held in Miami in mid-November. Since the first edition of the ITA Awards in 2015 the International Tunnelling and Underground Space Association has established it’s position as the premier global award for the tunnelling industry. The fifth edition of the awards are being held alongside the 2019 Cutting Edge Conference in Miami, USA.
The AQWG was formed as a collaborative platform to enable industry to work together with regulatory efforts to improve occupational health outcomes focusing on respirable crystalline silica (“silica dust”). Over a period of 12-months, the AQWG membership have worked to collectively produce reference material that did not previously exist in the tunnel construction industry’s body of knowledge.
This information is considered to benefit the wider tunnelling industry and therefore is now made freely available on the ATS website in the Resources Section.
A special congratulation to Kate Cole who has been the driving force behind this initiative and providing an inclusive environment where contractors, clients and the regulator could collaborate to achieve better outcomes for the greater good.
