The Perth chapter of the Australian Tunnelling Society hosted a two-and-a-half-day short course to leverage of the current experience and knowledge residing in Perth with the Forrestfield Airport Link project. The 78 course delegates covered the entire cross section of experience from undergraduates and new entrants to the market through to client side project managers.
Special thanks must go to the course Gold Supporters: Austunnel, Salini Impregilo-NRW JV and the PTA. Thanks also go to our USB Proceedings sponsor Herrenknecht. The team would also like to show our appreciation to the Silver Supporters: Bluey, CREG, DGSI, Geodata, Golder and Rob Carr. Without the generous support of these sponsors in furthering the knowledge of our industry, exception events such as this course are unable to come to fruition.
On the Sunday proceeding the technical course content, delegates were invited to visit the Forrestfield Airport Link project to provide a practical context for the following presentations. Delegates were privy to technical presentations with a focus on the local challenges specific to the Perth region including softer ground tunnelling applications. The course agenda included in depth discussions on TBMs, soft ground cross passage excavation and risk in the project life-cycle among other topics. Each presentation was delivered by a different subject matter expert, ensuring engaging and informed content across the event.
As the peak industry body for Tunnelling in Australia, the ATS is continually looking to boost the knowledge base of the local industry through various conferences and courses held across the country.
